Marriage: 27 July 1876 Moneydig Presbyterian Church, George Nelson, farmer, Gortnamoyagh, son of David Nelson, farmer, to Fanny Anne Dunlop, Claragh, daughter of Samuel Dunlop, farmer. Witnesses: Margaret Blair, Andrew Wilson.

A George Nelson was witness to marriage of Alex Chambers & Mary Anne Nelson of Gortnamoyagh, daughter of David Nelson, 2 Mar.1876 at First Garvagh Presbyterian Church- other witness Nancy Chambers.

Unfortunately there's a large gap in 1st Garvagh baptisms during the period George Nelson was born.

I believe Mary Ann Nelson is the grandaughter of David Nelson who married Jane Agnes Dobbin and she married Alec Chambers 2 Mar 1876.

Hi B J Peak,
George Nelson and Fanny Ann Dunlop are my great-grandparents. I'm descended from their daughter Annie; my paternal grandmother. I was just saying to my father [their grandson] last week that we don't know much about George & Fanny Ann's descendants. We know that Margaret  was married twice & died 7/8/1939; that David died at Passchendaele on that infamous day of 12/10/17; that Fanny Ann married Archie Gilmore, who had two children who never married; that I haven't researched the families of Samuel [born 1879], George [1885], & John [1892].
Our Coleraine families are Nelson, Dunlop, Blair & Johnston.
So, who are you descned from?
Regards,
Hugh Sutherland

Hi I am descended from Joseph Nelson; David's brother.

Nelsons of Gortnamoyagh discussed on an earlier thread where George Nelson's marriage already mentioned. Duplicate topics cause confusion and extra work.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=198715.9

From that thread this comment is incorrect-
Unfortunately First Garvagh Presbyterian Church during a period between 1850 - 1860 was vacant and therefore no baptims or marriages were recorded there.

James Brown ordained 1795, retired 1839, died 1850
James Millar ordained 18 Feb.1840, died 19 Nov.1859
Thomas Davidson ordained 25 Sept.1860, died 2 Aug.1865
Thomas Madill ordained 21 Feb.1866, died 1917

So, not much time vacant
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

George Nelson was my GG Grandfathers nephew who married Fanny Ann Dunlop.  They had the following children: Annie, Samuel, George, David, Fanny Ann & John.  I know David died on the 12 Oct 1917 Buried Tyne Cot Cemetery & Memorial, Passchendaele, Belgium. Fanny Ann married Archie Gilmore.
