Hello have a new branch on my tree BOUSFIELD family, but which denomination?
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 15:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,
 :D
I have just traced back to Sarah SIMS born 11 Sep 1798 St George's London Road Independant,Southwark ,Surrey according to IGI.
Her parents were Robert SIMS & Elizabeth BOUSFIELD married 1793 Layham,Suffolk again IGI.
Now found BOUSFIELD family all IGI 11 siblings all with births registered at Dr Williams Library,London.
I understand that this is a repository for Non conformist registers does anyone know how I go about finding out which denomination and where further records might be please.
The Bousfields had money and I have references to a Law Report involving them and Sarah in the Times and am interested to finding more about them.
Many thanks for looking.
Jenny

The answer to your question is that in the period when you are looking denominations in the non-conformist churches were not very meaningful.  The churches were independent and the unions were only just beginning to form.  You will thus find the churches variously described as congregational, baptist, independent, dissenters etc.

Their actual allegiance depended on the church meeting and the current minister.  They were self governing and self financing.  Records are at Dr Willaims Library, the current Unions - Baptist or United Reformed or in local record offices (LMA).

have you done a search of a2a for Bousfield?

Hello Behind the frogs,
No I haven't as yet but a good idea!
Today I searched some trade directories and found several of the brothers listed as Woollen & Linen warehsmen ,another was a spirit merchant and possibly a fourth as a grocer, another a wholesale clothier.
I only found the link to them through an article in the times stating they were the uncle of Sarah Simms.
Thanks for your help on denominations and A2A.
Best wishes
Jenny :D
