John Coyle & Annie Carr

Looking for any information on the family of John Coyle, small farmer, and Annie Carr. 
I believe they were from Donegal, and were married in the 1840's/50's.
They had at least one Son - Anthony Coyle, born about 1852.
Anthony moved to Duntocher, Dumbartonshire before 1881, and was working on the Railways as a surfaceman.
Both John & Annie are deceased by1889, as noted in Anthony's Marriage certificate dated October 25 1889.
Anthony Coyle married Annie Coyle at St. Mary's RC Chapel in Duntocher.
They had three (known) children -
Annie abt. 1890
Maggie abt 1891
Charles April 7, 1892  (my Grandfather)

I have lots on the family after the move to Scotland - but nothing on the Coyle's in Ireland.

Hi,

Unfortunately John Coyle is a popular name in Donegal. In the griffiths valuation taken in 1857 in Donegal I count at least 14. As searching 14 sets of parish records would be tough, I would suggest searching for John or Annie Coyle death presuming it happened post 1864 when general registration started.

The death indexes are available at your local family history centre.

Hello again Kate,

I find myself saying thank you again for your help.

14 John Coyles in the Griffiths valuation are a start - I will search them out, at least it will narrow down the parishes - and at this point, I am happy for any lead whatsoever.
I was not aware that the Civil indexes were available for Donegal.  Finding the death certificates would be great.
Are there any available censuses that I might be able to search?  Any advice you may have will come in most handy.

Hi, my great grandfather was Michael Coyle born around 1860/65 in Ireland and moved to Duntocher, Im not sure when or who with.  His parents were Peter Coyle and Rose Linde, I think.  He married Catherine Marley in 1895 in Old Kilpatrick and had Rose 1899, Michael ?, Helen 1905, William 1909, Agnes 1900, Mary 1897, Annie 1900 and my grandfather Patrick 1902.

1911 census lists them living at Veitch's (Old) Land

1901 census they live at 52 William Street

I cannot find any trace of them before coming to Clydebank and was hoping you may have them on your tree.       Many thanks, Clair Coyle

Hi Clair,  I have gone through all my lists, and I don't have your family in my tree - yet.   
You never know what future research may bring to light!  I wouldn't be surprised if there was a connection between our Coyle families, they share common first names, arrived in Duntocher about the same time, and lived within a stone throw of each other in the village.

More than likely, your family hailed from Donegal, as did my lot.  Finding stuff on them in Ireland has been a tough job for me.  I hope you have some better luck.

There's two marriages for a John Coyle and Anne Carr in Donegal. One is in Cloondavaddog and the other is in Fannett. I found this information on www.rootsireland.ie. There's a death in Fannett for a John Coyle 1887 and an 1886 death in Killygordon, 1889 death in Crossroads, 1889 death in Ramelton for an Anne Coyle

Oh!  Thank you for that!  I haven't searched that web site before, so I am thrilled for the link.  The 2 parishes for the wedding, I am guessing one was the Grooms, and the other the brides parish.  Wouldn't that be something.   

Fannet is striking a chord...  John Coyle  and Anne Carr's son Anthony Coyle married a gal also named Annie Coyle in Duntocher  in 1889.  Annie's mother - Catherine McGranaghan was from Fannad/Fannat same parish? Her father, Bernard Coyle is said to be from Mevagh,   I always assumed that Anthony knew his wife's family before they married in Scotland, this is a very good clue towards proving my theory.

I will have to pop on over to that web site for a look see!

Hi Debbie, thanks for info, Id be really surprised if they were not related, Im thinking probably that a few Coyle families may have moved to Clydebank together.  Looking at your picture of Gretta... she really resembles my Dads sisters when they were younger.  Im still living in Clydebank so Im going to do a bit more digging here at the library.  Ill let you know what I find out and if you have anything you want me to look at let me know.
Im also going to speak to my aunt as she may be able to shed a bit more light on some things

I cant unfortunately add to your actual resaearch.
However it may help to know that Fannett you mention in Donegal is actually Fanad.
Its in the Fanad Peninsulla in North Donegal.
