Would you know which parish the marriage took place in?  Devon is a large county.

Since it involved the Navy I'm assuming the marriage would have been in Plymouth or Devonport.

I wish I knew what parish it was,I think it may be near Morwellham but cant be sure. All I know for sure is that Lieutenant James Cook drowned during the wreck of H.M.S Brazen on Jan 26 1800 near Newhaven Sussex.

The Devon Family History Society offer a very reasonably priced printout service from its' indexes and these printouts are available to non-members as well as members. The Society has indexed all marriages from 1754 to 1812 and from 1813 to 1837. They also publish booklets by parish for the marriage indexes for the same period.- for details see the web site
There are ongoing indexing projects for Burials and baptisms for the period 1813 to 1837 and printouts from these are available after the booklets are published.
Might I suggest that you visit the Society's web site at http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/parishbooks.htm and click on the link for the event you are interested in. This will give you details of all the booklets available and there is also a link for you to request a quotation for printouts from the indexes.

Morwellham is a pretty good start as the Brazen was fitted out there after her capture from the French. I'll see if we have any more in the museum at Newhaven. Pete
