Hi Linda,

I'm intrigued... :)

What, & where is the "Magic Attic"?

Thanks Patricia
Yes, thanks very much, it really does look very promising - when I get back to Staffordshire (I'm living in Yorkshire most of the time) I'll give them a ring and go over there.  And Romilly, I don't know why it's called the Magic Attic - I know it's at the Sharpe's Heritage Centre - I think it was a pottery - in West Street, Swadlincote and they have a large archive of material relating to Swadlincote and South Derbyshire in general - I didn't know though whether they had much for Burton.  I don't have a car so it's a bit of a trek getting to Swad.,and knew of it but nothing else.
Again thanks
Linda

Dear All
I've been told that theMagic Attic is taking care of some parish records for Ashbourne - details unknown.  Also that volunteers have been abstracting names of dead from both world wars(from local papers i.e. South Derbyshire andBurton) and putting them into alphabetical order.  Just in case anyone is interested.  I don't know their opening hours - it's all done by volunteers.
Best wishes  Linda

Dear Andrea
Thankyou for your very kind offer - just at the moment I am very unorganised and not quite sure what I was after just then - probably my problem with a fire in Wirksworth which was supposedly reported in Derby Evening Telegraph - I've found two mentions of it in 1956, 25 years after - my grandad was a volunteer fireman and involved in it.  Also I've been researching St Chad's Burton, which was my local church.  However I'm now living in Yorkshire. So - if I can help you - please let me know - I can get to Sheffield and Rotherham archives easily.
Funnily enough I only found your posting by accident - it didn't come up in my Emails as usual - I wonder if that's the cause of occasional annoyances on Rootschat.
I hope you don't mind if I get in touch later - your offer is really appreciated.  Burton has the Burton Mail on film - and it's virtually unreadable.
Best wishes
Linda
