Dawsons Australia lookup

Hi,
I have a Susan Dawson born 1881 in England.She emigrated to Australia possibly in 1911.
She married a Tom Dawson.I have som eold photos of her and tring to trace relatives.
On the photos are Susan Dawsons husband Tom , Daughter Claire also her husband Bill and baby Ross.
Along with these photos which look around 1930's are a Mrs Stars and her 3 daughters muriel stars and noreen stars also pearl stars( from Queensland).
I havnt got a clue how to find anything out about claire and her husband as all cesus in Australia were destroyed

Hi Sueh,

I have suggested a couple of places to look but a little more information would help if you have it.

Do you have any idea of the state in Australia that they emigrated to?

Were they married before they immigrated?

Were any children born in Australia?

Did any of them die in Australia?

I'd try shipping lists and BDM to see what you can find.  Australian BDM usually have much more information than their British counterparts

There are a few marriages for a Claire Dawson in 1954/1955 which are too late there is nothing earlier.

There is a death for a Susan Dawson in 1938 to parents George and Eliza

Vic BDM are also online but you need to pay for the index

Hi Jenny / Sueh

The Aust Vital Records (AVRI  from the LDS) only covers WA to 1905.  NSW & Vic to 1888 and Tas to 1899 - so not everywhere & too early for sueh

1911 is one of the worst time to look for immigration online as the swap was happening between the states & Feds for immigration responsibility.


The marriage for Claire that you found may not be too late if her mother married post 1911. 

If Tom served in the Australian forces there may be a record at www.naa.gov.au
- I did look - a couple in WWI but not with a wife susan.
