Afternoon Sandy  ;D
This is all i have on him James Markie
Lived At
Neather Boddington, Northamptonshire
Listed in the 1762 Militia list
James bought a property in Nether Boddington from Richard & William Iffields on the 12th Jan 1768.
he borrowed the sum of £50 from Alice Smith of Claydon, Oxfordshire.

There are two documents mentioning James Markie in the 1760's (Refs: ZA 71 and ZA 72).  One is a mortgage dated 12 January 1768 by James Markie of Nether Boddington, dealer and chapman, and his wife, Susannah, to an Alice Smith of Cleydon, co Oxfordshire, spinster, for £50 at 4% interest of a little plot of ground in Nether Boddington and a cottage built on it.

The other is a conveyance in the form of a lease and release dated 3 May 1769 by James Markie and Susannah, his wife, to William Goodwin of Nether Boddington, yeoman, Thomas Sabin of Cleydon, co Oxfordshire, and Alice nee Smith, and John Arnold of Wardington, co Oxfordshire, yeoman, reciting the above mortgage dated 12 January 1768 for £50 and £20 of a little plot in Nether Boddington and a cottage.

Occupation: Dealer and Chapman
Chapman = A pedler who went from village to village.

James Markie otp married Susannah Adams of Nether Heyford, spinster on 11 October 1760 by license. at St Seps Northampton
Witnesses John Markie & Ann Ashby/Ashley.
The license said James was a pedlar and his bondsman was Richard Boon of Northampton, taylor.

This John i dont know if it is a brother as there is a John that gets married on the 1st May 1780 at st seps to Martha Witsey of Pitsford he died in 1783 leaving no will but martha did leaving all to her nephew William Bembrook.
that reallly is everything i have on them

I have also come across the following which may shed a little light who knows it could be a match for susanna markie nee adams.
Holy cross Daventy Bap 20th Dec 1740 Susannah Adams d of John and Susannah Adams,
as the children on the Markie side went Susannah, Thomas, Sarah, John, John, James, Sarah
Regards Ian

Hi Ian.

I remember all the wills you have as your lineage contains
quite a few well off rellies.  :)

Susannah does seem one to keep in mind.

Daventry being near to all the places, there is nothing to
say her family did not move to Heyford after her baptism
or that she was not in service there.

I have been invited to the Northampton Central Library "100
years celebration" , (it will be the only the 2nd time I will have
visited this year).  :) There will be cake.  ;D

It seems as though you are breaking down the walls.

Hi Ian.

I looked at the 2 marriages today at the Northampton Library
for James and John.

The signature of John Markie on James marriage in 1760 does
not look anything like John's signature on his in 1780.

So I think you can rule out brothers.

I also noticed Ian that John's wife Martha was a Widow at
her marriage in 1780.

There was a Samuel Witsey marrying a Martha Gee (of Guilsborough)
at Scaldwell 1755 which as we know is not far from Pitsford.

Still not helping with James origins though.  :)
