Dover look-up.
« on: Saturday 18 February 06 15:35 GMT (UK) »
Is SKS able to look-up a  baptism in Dover.

I'm afraid I do not know which church or parish.

I am looking for any information on George HERSEY,and his birthdate is about 1798 according to the 1861 census.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dave

I checked St Mary, St James & Buckland St Andrew, but did not find your George.  The only HERSEY/HEARSEY entries I found were at St Andrew's, but they were 100 years too late!

I will send them to you if you think they might be relevant.

Regards, Bill

Hi Bill.Thank you for both the time and effort that you have put in.

I think that a search of the Poor Law Union records where George settled,Wisborough Green Ssx,may through light on his origins.

An amusing anecdote concerns my maternal g/f,who died in 1966.All of his life he was certain that he was born at Redhill,Surrey. Many years later, when I developed an interest in genealogy,we discovered he was actually born at Down(now Downe),Kent. But what did he rememmber about the first 18 months of his life?
Naturally he assumed that as he was brought up in Redhill,he must have been born there.

I will also book a day out,in the summer, and visit the Canterbury archives.

I don't think the records from St.Andrew's will be relevant, but thank you for your kind offer.

If I can help you with any look-ups from Bromley or Croydon Libraries, please don't hesitate in contacting me at email address removed by moderator - please use the secure Rootschat personal message system - thankyou

Regards,
Dave.

Hi - Saw your post searching on Hersey. Could your George Hersey have been born in America? There is a George Hersey b. June 16, 1798, Boston, Massachusetts
"The Hersey Family, Tracing the Descendents of William Hersey, 1635 - 1994"
There is no information about this George other than his birthdate, which is unusual. The family is pretty well documented and childhood deaths are usually recorded as well notes about individuals moving, so maybe this is your George. It appears he fell off the Earth, which might be the same as moving to England. Working backwards, his parents and paternal grandparents are:
William Hersey (March 19, 1764) and Sarah ? (1766)
William Hersey (October 24, 1741, Boston, Mass.) and Martha Russell
Israel Hersey (April 1, 1702, Hingham, Mass.) and Tabatha Parkman (January 1, 1721)
John Hersey (October 27, 1659, Hingham, Mass.) and Elizabeth ? (Hingham, Mass)
William Hersey (1632, Reading, Berks) and Rebeccah Chubbuck (April 1641, Hingham, Mass.)
William Hersey (August 22, 1596, Reading, St. Giles, Berks) and Elizabeth Croade (1610, Suffolk, Eng.)
Nathaniell Hercy (abt 1566, either Swanton Morley, Norfolk or Reading St. Giles, Berks) & Ann ?
Hersey, Hercy, Hersee, Hearsey etc.

I forgot to credit Stephen E. Hersey as author of "The Hersey Family, Tracing ..." mentioned above.

The George in question is listed as "George W. Hersey"

Hersey, Hercy, Hersee, Hearsey etc.
