Lewes Prison 1901
« on: Saturday 18 February 06 15:04 GMT (UK) »
One of my ancestors was an inmate at Lewes Prison the night of the 1901 census. Can anyone advise me on how I can find out what for and for how long.  I am not in a position to go to records offices at the moment so it will have to be done be done on-line if possible.

Many thanks

Hi Lel

Nothing to do with your enquiry, but I notice from your signature that you are researching the Robins name in Warbleton.

The earliest link in my surname lineage is William Robins who seems to have spent some time in and around the Heathfield/Warbleton area. He was born in 1810(ish!) in Heathfield, but his parents are as yet a total mystery. His children, Anna, John, Harriet and Sarah were all born in Warbleton.

Any connections? Theres also another researcher here looking for a differnet line of the Warbleton Robins. Maybe theres some mutual ancestry.

Hi

I was originally researching Robins in the belief that Thomas 1834 who married Harriet Brook was the father of my GGgrandmother Elizabeth and her sister Kate but although Kate has been proved to be his child Elizabeth's birth cert. reads father unknown. Thomas was a soldier at the time of Kate's birth (Eastbourne1857) but I cannot find any record of him after that time so whilst I am not actively searching if anyone should know what happened to him I love to know. I believe he is the son of William Robins 1810 Heathfield and Barbary Baker but thats all I have.
