Hi Tracey

What part of Huddersfield do you hail from ?

For many years St Pauls has been known as the Drill Hall and was used by the TAs and the Air Cadets as a meeting place and training base.
I aslo remember going to a christmas party there when Iwas about 4 and santa gave me a silver gun in a holster and a magician scared the crap out of me.
Ah memories eh!

Hi Joe

St Pauls Church is on St Pauls Street (I was born there) the University now stands on part of it. I have St Marks Church clearly marked on a 1907 map of Huddersfield. My Grandmother lived at the bottom of Northumberland Street and on the census form for 1901 it states the parish of St Marks.

Hi all ,
thanks for all that info , i know exactly which is st pauls ......used to frequent the zetland pub on a regular basis (BC of course .... before children !!).
Ted do you know if the st marks behind the sports centre is still there or has it been demolished ?

Joe you asked where i hail from ...... i'll just say i'm a Golcar Lily  ;D ...... the theory about the saying golcar lily being about the ladies of the village is my favourite explanation ! Dont live in Hudds now so its great to be able to ask folk from the area info via rootschat  :)
