Hi Alex,i am not sure if you are related to these or not but thought i would give you them anyway.
Grave number 99 Dalmellington Churchyard Ayrshire.
Erected by Hugh Limmond died 3/7/1933 aged 57 interred at Fenwick.
In Memory Of Mary Wallace Lammie died at Meadowbank 25/9/1912 aged 39 and son Robert died 16/5/1912 aged two and a half years.

These are some births i got from the same site.
Robert Lammie Limmond father Hugh Lammie mother Mary Wallace Lammie born Meadowbank 12/10/1909
Mary Wallace Limmond born 13/11/1906 parents as above
Quintin Limmond 13/1/1905 parents as above
Ruth Wilson Limmond 12/8/1912.
It could just be a coincidence but there is a Wilson in the middle name of the last child.
I think my Georges parents were David Lammie and Jane Gall.Anyway let me know if the info is of any use to you .Anne.

Hi there,

I have just stumbled across this debate and believe that I can clear up one or two things here.

David Lammie the son of David Lambie and Mary Cowan was born in Sorn not Auchinleck -

Lammie John & David, lawful twins children of David Lammie, Mason near Catrine & Mary Cowan his spouse, were born 19th & baptized 26th February 1815.

David Lambie senior was the son of James Lamie and Jean Shaw. This means the connection is not as discussed here. David was a Mason as was his son.

By 1881, David was living in Newton on Ayr with his second wife Margaret McCreath and working on the Railways.

Its important to extend the search from Lammie to Lamie and Lambie as the spelling is down to the literacy of the local clergy. Every Lambie was Lammie in Sorn and Lamie then Lambie in Mauchline.

I can also tell you about Mary Wallace Lambie if anyone is interested?

I have extensive research on these families if I can help with more information.

Regards,

Paul Lambie

Hi Paul,i am so pleased you got in toch with us.I hope you can solve this puzzle because i am at a loss as to where to go next. This is the info i have on my Lammies.
My Great Grandmother was Jessie Lammie born 1877 Kirkconnell married William Young 7th October 1898 at Hillend Kirkconnell, daughter of George Lammie and Jane Wilson. This much i know is right.
Georges parents were David Lammie and Isabella Mcmichael, this is also true i got the death certificate of George from Scotlands People.George died March 7th at Little Dalhamner New Cumnock 1919 aged 70.I dont know where George was born or his siblings.
This is the marriage details of George Lammie to Jean Wilson which i also got from Scotlands People.
Married in the Parish of Kirkconnell Dumfrieshire George Lammie a shepherd age 27 residence Hillend son of David Lammie and Isabella Mcmichael.
Jane Wilson age 24,daughter of James Wilson a farmer and Janet Dargarvel.
23rd May 1876 in Kirkconnell Village After Banns According to The Forms of the Established Church of Scotland.I also have Janes death certificate, she remarried after George died.
The question now is who was Davids parents and siblings and Isabellas parents and siblings, this is where i am stuck,i just cant seem to get any further.David Lammie and Margaret Cowan comes into the picture somewhere along the line but with so much info i got really confused and decided to give it all a rest. Can you help me Paul it would be really appreciated if you could sort out who belongs to who.Anne.

Hi Anne,

I can help out a little here.

David Lammie and Isobel McMichael had at least 3 sons - Robert (5 March 1844), William (22 April 1846), and George (5 September 1848), all born in Kirkconnel. As these are OPR records you should assume that these are christening dates.

David then married Jane Gall 17 November 1853 in Kirkconnel.

Robert married Jeanie McGavin in Riccarton in 1871. This is the grave highlighted by Alex in an earlier posting.

A David Lammie died in Kirkconnel in 1898 aged 84. This would be consistent with your census record giving a birth c1814. The reference on Scotlands People is 834/00 0006. This should give you his parents.

My money would be on John Lambie and Margaret Lambie who had a William 'Lambie' christened in Kirkconnel 12 December 1802.

Again, all this would be consistent with the information posted by Alex.

If you are interested, I host the Lambie mailing list on Rootsweb to further research of all Lambie, Lammie, and Lamie variants.

Hope this helps,

Paul
