1851 census WILLIAM NEWTON
« on: Monday 13 February 06 10:19 GMT (UK) »
At his daughter ELIZABETH's wedding in 1856,
WILLIAM NEWTON, a railway porter, was present.

Elizabeth, b. 1834/5,  described her place of birth as BUCKLEY, Northamptonshire on the 1881 census, though I'm not sure that place exists. She might have meant Long Buckby, I suppose.

Her wedding took place in Birmingham (married name :BAMBURY), but if she had come from Northamptonshire, I should be pleased to know whether she was living there with her family for the 1851 census.  I am interested to know her mother's name, and whether there were brothers and sisters.

Thanks for any help in this.

Hi Florence Kate
Welcome to Rootschat  :D I've found Elizabeth in 71 and 91 - her birthplace is Long Buckby - do you want details? Can't see her in 51 or 61 but will keep looking.
Cheers Jan ;)

Thanks Jan.  Thanks Tati/Tanja.
Yes I should be most interested in 61, 71 and 91 details.

As for 51, it is perfectly possible that Mum and Dad had moved into the big city by then, leaving Eliza(beth) still working in Northants.
Then she comes visiting them sometime  between 1851 and 1856 and meets William Bambury, (himself  a  Devon lad according to 1851 census.)

Isn't it exciting??  Thanks very much.  This is as near as I've ever got to the Newton family.

Florence Kate.

Jan,

Just reread your info and read that Elizabeth was working in Watford. At first I thought it meant Watford, Herts, which is the only one I know, and was  surprised somewhat, but on looking up Guilsbro to see where the Employer came from, I realise Watford is ALSO a village very close to Long Buckby.

It's amazing what you find out, isn't it?
