Last heard of in Brandon, Manitoba
« on: Saturday 11 February 06 22:47 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for William Harkness, born 9.01.1884, who left Scotland for Canada.
As far as we know he was a Land Agent in Brandon, Manitoba.

He was the son of Margaret Harkness. He was born in Burgess Close, Moffat, Dumfriesshire.

Grateful for any help.

I went to the  University of Manitoba with a Shawn Harkness from MacGregor, Manitoba which is just half an hour from Brandon. He'd be about 50 now. Good luck.

Hello,
My DOW's have been one of my biggest mysteries. I have a Donald DOW born in Edinburgh, lived in Kilwinning, Ayrshire from about 1964 to 1881 and then in Glasgow until his death in 1885. He was born in either 1832, 1938 or 1840 based on marriage, death and census information. I can't find any record of his birth. He was my gt gt grandfather. He was a groom/stableman. His parents were John Dow and Margaret Jessie (or Janet) LAMONT from Edinburgh. His youngest daughter, Robina, was my gt grandmother. She immigrated to Canada with her husband, James KELLY and daughter Evelyn in 1920.
Donald DOW had only one son to pass along the name - John DOW born in Glasgow in about 1879.

Any of this sound familiar?

I imagine you know of the birth of these all born to John Dow & Janet Lamont
from the I.G.I. Catherine in 1827 - John Dow 1829 -  Thomas in 1831
Christian Stewart in 1833 and Isabella in 1837...all Edinburgh Parish
where John & Jane married in 1826!

Wondering...speculating whether Donald was the middle name of one of
these fellows and he preferred the middle name...not unusual??

Could you write to Edinburgh Parish, to inquire as to whether there was one more birth of a Donald?

All the best  J.J.
