Hi Claire
I saw your request and wondered if you could help me with some information.
I've recently learned that my grandmother, Emma Murch (nee Bates) married a William Rayner of 4 Sugarloaf Walk, Bethnal Green in 1916.
This has peaked my interest in finding out more.
Here is the background I have so far:
William and Emma Rayner had one son, Thomas, who himself had two children. However since my William Rayner was a widower, I am interested to know if he had any children from his earlier marriage.
Emma's previous husband (William Murch) was reported missing was believed killed the in 1915 during The Great War. Both Williams had been French Polishers, and I am led to believe W Rayner may have been W Murch's boss/employer before he was sent to war.
At the time of the marriage to Emma, W Rayner's age was shown on the marriage certificate as 51. However on his death some 20 years later his age was reported as 75. This would give his DOB between 1861 and 1865. There is also some confusion over Emma's age. On her first mariage in 1907, her age is 19. However on the marriage to W Rayner 9 years later it is shown as 31.
Should it be there is a connection, I will be more than happy to give whatever help I can and copy any relevent documentation I have. (I only have a photocopy of the marriage cert. for Emma and W Rayner)
I'd appreciate any information you can give if it appears W Rayner is indeed one of your ancestors.
Regards
Ron
Hello - is any kind person able to help me out. I have got back on my family tree as far as:
William Rayner, born approx 1807, Bethnal Green
married (no date)
Louisa Jane Prestage
born approx 1815, Bethnal Green
Had about 12 children, one of whom was Charles, born approx 1856, Hackney, who I am descended from.
I have traced them back through to the 1851 census - can anyone help me find parents for William and Sarah?
Any help would be most gratefully received.
Kind regards
Claire
