Stalford
« on: Thursday 09 February 06 13:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Trying to trace my GGF roots and ancestors. He was William James (Jas) Stalford born in Ireland abt 1858.he is not on the census prior to his marriage in cumbria in 1878 to Jane A Askew of Longtown(cumberland)
Their first child Annie Mary was born in Longtown 1879 ,the second Samuel J in Appelby(westmorland) 1881
I cant find them on the !881 or 1891 census, presumably they were in the Uk at this time.
They next appear as a family in Liverpool on the 1901 census.
Has anyone any ideas on the missing years, or where he may have come from in
Ireland ?
regards Norman

Well, I found the info ... on the 1891 census!   ;D

I tried everything I could think of but couldn't spot him in 1881...

I hope somebody else will have more luck.

Think I've possibly found them listed as 'Stafford' in 1881.

122 Handel St, Toxteth Park, Lancashire:

William Stafford, head, married, 24, b. Ireland, Gentleman's Dom. Gardener
Jane A., wife, married, 21, b. Carlisle, Cumberland
Annie M, dau, 2, b. Carlisle, Cumberland
Samuel J, son, 5M, b. Westmorland.

Thanks for that. That  is definitely him, they had just moved  to another address in the same street! the name must have incorrectly entered.
