Hugeonots?
« on: Wednesday 08 February 06 16:03 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know the locations where the Hugeonots (i think that's how it's spelt) came from.  Have gone as far back as i can with my Sennitt name in Stretham, Cambridge, but we believe they were originally from Europe and banished cos of their religion.  Thanx
Margaret.

They were from France, and the main wave arrived in England around 1685.

If you google for "Huguenots" you'll plenty of good sites which will give you a lot of background information on them.

There is a Huguenot Society at http://www.huguenotsociety.org.uk/

Regards

David

Hello,
I originate from Stretham and have the surname Sennitt. Unfortunately, this is not a birth name, as my birth father passed away when I was a baby. My mother remarried soon after and I took my late step-father's name. He was with me for 27 years. Despite this, I am still very interested in the origin of the name and  assumed it is French.
I grew up in Stretham and knew three more families of Sennitts besides ours. Which Sennitts in Stretham are you related to and have you met any of them?
Liz

Hi Liz
Yes i am a Sennitt, they are not Hugenots as i have discovered that the first one, Frances, came to Stretham from Cottenham, Cambs to marry Damarias Reade in the 1600's.  Who was yr Stepfather and who did he marry pls.
Regards Margaret.

My step-father was Austin Sennitt, married to my mother. He died in 2002. His mother was Inez Sennitt, daughter of Nathan Sennitt and Mary Ann Langford.

We were visited by a lady from Australia a couple of years ago who is a Sennitt and provided us with an extensive family tree.
