Information after 1905
« on: Tuesday 07 February 06 15:29 GMT (UK) »
My gr-granny was born in 1906, do you know how I could find her birth certificate online?  Or would I have to go to the Scottish archives?

Have you tried freeBMD site on Artistry.

If you cannot access it let me know the name and area they were born in and I'll try and find it for you.

Unfortunately, it's in Scotland, so probably not.  I can't see anything for Scottish regions on freebmd.   ???

All Scottish records can be found at Scotlandspeople - but it is a pay per view site, and you must pay for downloads and paper certificates. It can get very expensive, very fast. Unfortunately there is no way around this.

I'm on Scotland's People and it says that it goes up to 1905.   ???  Am I just being blind and not seeing it?  :-\

You are right.

Found this on there:

Online access is restricted to data over 100 years old for births, 75 years for marriages and 50 years for deaths, in accordance with GROS policy, to protect the privacy of individuals. However, later records may be accessed from New Register House, Edinburgh.

If you cannot get to New Register House

- You could post a request on the Scotland board & someone going there may agree to check it for you

- You can write and pay for a copy of the certificate
http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/bdm/index.html

- You can wait until January next year & it will be available on ScotlandsPeople
