Still searching PADDISON
« on: Monday 06 February 06 17:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am still searching anywhere for PADDISON.

Please please, if anyone knows of the Paddison family from  the Castle Church area of Stafford please contact me.

There was a large family of them and I find it hard to believe that there are no descendants

My gt grandmother was Louisa Paddison, her father was John mother ,Harriet, ANYONE please????

There is also a puzzle, one of the Paddison boys was adopted, I would love to have an answer if it is known.

Any descendants with the name Paddison depends on whether the adopted boy changed his name and the rest weren't all girls (name change on marriage).

I do have marriages traced for the girls and quite a bit of info on them & their children.
The adopted one is a mystery to me, this was overheard in 1949 when a cousin of my mother (from Canada) came to visit us.
I heard mother remark to him, "..oh, they adopted the Paddison boy, did`nt they..." this of course meant nothing to me then, but the name of Paddison remained in my memory, so that when I began to research my family, I had a few names in my memory to start with,

The cousin who visited, I only knew of as Charlie Herd (or could it be Heard?) I never saw him again, but when he had returned to Canada he had arranged for food parcels to be sent to us, and I was also writing to a cousin (mine, I don`t know) I never knew her surname or where she was connected to my family. My mother took charge of mailing the letters (obviously did not want me to know their surnames or where they were)
how I wish I knew now, but I did not ask questions then, this was not encouraged by my mother!
Cousin Charlie had asked if my brother could go with him to Canada for a visit, but a very definate NO was the answer from mother, the correspondence soon stopped after that year, by her? she did not want questions  asked or answered, so the family remains a mystery to me.

I have been receiving valuable information from Karen on this site, I am so grateful to her, I now know about the marriage of my gt aunt Laura Gagan, she married a Lawrence Yokker, a name I have been so far, unable to trace the origin of. Hopefully, some progess will now be made.

I have had problems with the name, at times Lousia`s name has been recorded as Pattison nstead of PaDDison, being caused by her not being able to read, the correct name though is PaDDison. I do try the different variations sometimes, but still no luck.

Hi,

I have some Pattysons (also written as Patterson in some places) in my tree, from the Milwich area near Stafford, so there might be some connection.

My 4xG-grandmother's name was Mary Pattyson (ca. 1798-1860), and her father was James, a wheelwright. She seems to have had at least three brothers, James, Samuel and Thomas.

However, I also did a quick search on the 1841 census and found a Paddison household in the parish of St Mary and St Chad, Stafford, so it may be that these, rather than the Pattysons, were the ancestors of your Paddisons.

(all born in Staffs)
Ann Paddison    abt 1816 Binder
Elizabeth Paddison    abt 1826 Dress maker
Jane Paddison    abt 1796 Ind[ependent means?]
John Paddison    abt 1821 Shoe m[aker?]

I would guess that Jane was the widowed mother of Ann, Elizabeth and John although the 1841 census doesn't specify family relationships so it's not possible to know for certain from this info.

There were also quite a lot of PaTTisons in the Stafford area in 1841. Of course, all this is a bit before the time you're researching at the present, but perhaps you might be able to make a connection when you get further back.

Best wishes
