Death date MITCHELL
« on: Sunday 05 February 06 06:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Is there any way I can find a death date for John Mitchell b 1824 in Scotland who emigrated to The US with his wife Mary Ann and children c 1853.

I have always been led to understand that he died c 1890 probably in Lonaconing or somewhere in Maryland or West Virginia. I would like to be able to get a copy of his death certfificate.

He was married to Mary Ann Dickie/Dickey and had the following children

George b 1845 Scotland, probably died there
Margaret b 1846 Scotland
Mary b 1848 Scotland
Agnes b 1850 Scotland died as infant
Agnes b 1852 Scotland
Jean Templeton b 1855 Lonaconing Maryland
John b 1857 d 1885 Lonaconing
George b 1861/2 Lonaconing.

Thanks

Carawa,

I think your John Mitchell is the brother of my 4xgreat grandfather, George Mitchell. George was staying with John & Mary Ann in Kilbirnie in 1851.

I'm trying to identify their parents and siblings. There are so many Mitchells in Sorn at that time. I wonder if you have any further information that might point me in the right direction?

Regards,
Sarah

This looks like your family Lonaconing, Allegany, Maryland in 1880. Half the scan missing so can't see other details. Mary had already died. Will see if I can see anything for John.
John Mitchell 55 Widower. Merchant
Margaret Mitchell 33 born Scotland
John Mitchell 23 born Maryland
George Mitchell 13 born Maryland

Keep in mind that the original post is nearly 4 years old, so the original poster may already have answers to these questions.
