Hi MaryA

Thanks for all your help - that will, of course be them.   I appreciate the time you've taken to help with this.   I think my next stop will be the shipping records and I suspect, as I said below, that they came out in the 1850's so that's where I'll start.

Interesting that James is not in FreeBMD while Joseph is, given he was born before Joseph.

The Stephen who died in 27/4/1856 is Williams father and he married Martha Ann(e) ? and this is as far back as I go so far.

While not proof of anything, a Stephen RICKETT and Jane had two children baptised in Aslackby and seven more in Dowsby (the next village) arouind the time your Stephen was born.  Stephen was buried in Aslackby 1832 (81) and Jane in 1841 (86).

FreeBMD has about 60% of the births for Q3 1850 and less than 10% for Q4 1850 transcribed, so there's a fair chance of your James not being there.  1851 is barely started but 1852 is complete.

Hi Geoff

I haven't shut my mind to the fact that some of the family especially as far back as you are talking about (1788) may have spelled their name differently.    In this family that doesn't seem to be the case - they all seem to have spelt their name Rickit and for them, at least, I have checked the other spellings.   However my Stephen is the first person I have so I will be looking at all spelling variations beyond him.   So thanks for Jane and Stephen - I will investigate them as the possible next generation.

Grateful for your help.

I thought they were the same - had the same information but obviously not.

Thankyou very much.

The searchable database is the same, try searching the images, many of them have not yet been transcribed.
