Bo'ness 1910

In a 1910 manuscript I have researched and found, the following place/business is stated:

Denham's Wood-Yard  Bo'ness

Anyone know if this was in fact a business or place in Bo'ness?  Any information much appreciated.

Is there any other info giving more location details - I was brought up in Bo'ness and have been researching a lot there around 1910 - there were lots of woodyards right along the river front there.  The docks at Bo'ness were at one time the main port for the River Forth before Leith took over.  Lots of timber was imported to there from Scandinavia to be converted into pit props for the mining industry.  There were lots of sawmills in the area - one or two still exist.  If you can provide any other details I may be able to help with a bit more info.

There was a police station in Bo'ness which I think was built around that time and was part of the building where the railway station was - close to the docks and woodyards - so the refrence to central PO could mean that.  Or possibly - a lot of the woodyards also stored railway sleepers as there was a big railway storage facility there - I am not sure if at that time there was a separate constabulary for the railways - now there is British Transport Police who have jurisdiction over railways and railway property - if this was the case at that time someone who had been arrested could have been taken to their main HQ in Glasgow.  However I am just speculating on this - I think the former case is more probable.

Hello all

I suppose the Denham timber yard was run by the firm I found in a 1896 Bo'ness directory, though the surname is Denholm:

-Denholm John & Co. shipbrokers, shipping & forwarding agents, timber merchants &c. Custom House buildings; T N 1601; T A "Denholm, Bo'ness".
