I have found coats of arms and heraldry extremely interesting.
From research, done by others, my Cotton family line goes back pre-1066. As you say before 1500 it does get a bit iffy. I only keep the rest on paper and haven't bothered typing it all up.

Nobody mentioned that there was anythin wrong being related to gentry.

In no way am I jealous

The point was that gentry kept their own pedigrees and you do not have to rely on parish registers to find them, plus there are lots of rolls and other documents listing their ancestors.
