The furthest I have been able to get on one line is 18 generations. That takes me to 1474 in Kent the family was Topley.
My second furthest line is 16 generations. 1520 In Sussex. The surname is Geere.
What about you guys?

Amy,
Just cast my vote. I too have the surname Geere appearing on the tree, a long time back in Sussex. My 8 x g grandmother was Sarah Geere born 1633 in Ovingdean. Still need to do serious research on that though. Does this ring any bells?

Little Nell,
To all intents and purposes I believe our trees
should
be linked.
Let me look in my files.....

What a success!! Sarah married Robert Plumer in 1650. When she died, the parish register where she married (Piddinghoe) added the description "a virtuous woman". Their son James lived to the ripe old age of 89 and left a small fortune to his children, some of whom left yet more to their nieces and nephews. I think it makes us 9th cousins, 4 times removed, but hey who's counting - is this a first for Rootschat?? Who else do we tell??

Can I go twice ?
"Alone and unaided", I count 4 generations.
But we also have a family tree in the Jewish Encyclopedia from 1904, which brings it up to 16 generations.
But as that was none of my work, I suppose I have to be honest and stick to 4
