Help Please Family Story

Hope some one can help me find out if this family story is true.
The story goes that my GGGGrandfather Frederick NATT (born 1804 Cobham Kent) while in the Navy had his hand blown off by a cannon when fighting Pirates . He is said to have received a pension from the Navy up until his death in 1880 in Australia.
Would there be Naval records to support this. I have checked The National Archives but have found nothing. Any advice would be welcome.
Cheers Leonie

10 years later
Just updating this as the British Royal Navy & Royal Marines service and pension records are now on Find My Past.
Records have confirmed that Frederick Natt received a lifetime naval pension because he had his left arm fractured. He had served in the Navy for 2 years and 1 day.
So wonderful all the records that are coming on line especially when researching from Australia. Hope this helps other researchers.

Well done, Leonie!
Just shows we should never give up searching, & go back to those puzzling questions every now & then.... I need to go make a list!
