i have lots of information about families especially as most of my own family travelled the South west of England and also went to USA

I would say it would help a great deal if you get marriage certificate deb will help you a great deal as so many Penfold & Orchard with same names & dates of birth, i know it maybe differcult for you in USA but unless you find someone here with that info you could link to completely wrong family
It was very common for traveling families to say they were born from place on Census they were staying at time so can be very confusing as to where they actually were born.

I have found family in 1861 Census UK ( under name of Penford)
In Minehead Somerset  RG9 -1601-40 page 30

I find family again In 1871 Census Lamerton Tavistock Devon
John ( father) is gone so presume he is dead
Thomas & Christopher are missing would presume already married
Harriet Penfold ( mother)  58 1813 warminster Wilts

Alfred Penfold 22 1849 Marston Somerset
Henry Penfold 20 1851 Bridgewater Somerset
Edward Penfold 18 1853 Dobwalls Cornwall
William Penfold 8 1863 Plymouth Devon ( Grandson)
Charlotte Guess 11 1860 paigton Devon ( Granddaughter)
Ocean Hughes 20 1851 Honiton Devon ( Visitor)

as you can see from these Census same family slight different birth places but 2 children Henry & Alfred  born exact year and place so has to be same family

you know that Thomas Penfold is married by 1871  explains him missing from above
Christopher Penfold his brother is now in 1871 in Dean prior Totnes Buckliegh Devon

The Robert Penfold & Amelia someone mentions I would guess he was brother to John  & Harriett Penfold

If you have Pricilla Penfold born 1860 on your tree, daughter of Robert and Amelia, later married Henry Orchard b 1857 at Chaffcombe I have some info on their son Edward who was born at Shapwick in Somerset 1889 (according to census) Henry and Pricilla were at Bridgwater in 1901, Henry a licenced van hawker.
