I would however, be very interested to know if any information was every found. The last post mentions an article but it appears the information or link has been removed.

The reason I am so interested in further info is because I recently came across some family history showing that my Great-Great-Great Grandfather (John Gregory) was the Owner/Master of a ship called Lady Bassett between 1864 and 1871 in the Brixham area.

Prior to the Lady Bassett he also served on the "Hope" (three different times), "Dart", and the "Ann and Maria".

I realize the chance of any information is slim, but thought I would try.

Silvertonhistory... Would you happen to have any info on a John Bowhey (or his family)? He was also a mariner and in my family tree. He died on March 16th 1846 when he went over board and drowned. He was on the Swift Steamer in the Bristol Channel.

I obviously do not know what all you have researched but figured it was worth a shot...

John Gregory and John Bowhey (or Bowhay) were 2nd cousins as well as father-in-laws. John Gregory's son William George married John Bowhey's daughter Sarah Ann.

Have you ever looked at the Crew Muster Rolls for ships registered at Dartmouth c1824-34? The Bowhey family including a John is listed. There is too much to list here so contact me via GJHPatBTINTERNET.COM
