Sheppey Union Workhouse
« on: Wednesday 01 February 06 06:21 GMT (UK) »
My GGG grandmother Angelina Bilbe was an inmate of the Workhouse on the 1901 Census and aged about 75.   I cannot find her death listed on any data bases.  Was wondering if anybody could look up the Workhouse records which are at the Centre for Kentish Studies

Thanks Frances,
I had actually found that one.  It tells me the records are  held by the Centre for Kentish Studies in Maidstone.  Bit of a long swim from Oz 8)

Hi dutyofficer,

The way a lot of us contact the holders of archives if they are a distance away is by the internet (if available) , telephone or normal postal mail. I am in the UK but cannot possibly get to the office holding the records I require so have I to be patient and hope that I get to the top of the list.....soon?

Hopefully in times to come records may become available on disc or online, there are very few at present.

Happy Hunting,

Frances :)

She was still in the workhouse in 1911

This is her death reference that you can use to get her death certificate from the GRO if you wish (£9.25)  http://www.gro/gov.uk

Name: Angelina Bilbee

Birth Date: abt 1826
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1916
Age at Death: 90
Registration district: Milton
Inferred County: Kent
Volume: 2a
Page: 1441

EDIT: Just noted this request was from 2006 ................
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.
