My grandfather was a Gordon Highlander
« on: Tuesday 31 January 06 23:10 GMT (UK) »
My grandfather was a Gordon Highlander, his name was Pte John Greenwood 4412 and he was groom to the C.O. Lt Col. Francis Hugh Neish. He was born in Todmorden (probably in May 1875) but the only record I have been able to find for him online is the 1901 Scottish census where he was in King Street Barracks, Aberdeen with my grandmother and their first two children, both of whom died very young. The first surviving child was born in Aberdeen in 1903 but the next two were born at the Aldershot Barracks in 1908 and 1910. The last born, on 18th July 1910, was my mother Molly Greenwood but I have been unable to obtain a birth certificate for her as I am told the birth cannot be traced.
Can anybody suggest how I can proceed ?
Regards,

If you contact the Gordon Highland Museum the can help. Provide them with his number and also the name.. I am so hopeful of a GH in my family, such a fascinating place!
