1851 Census
HO107/1707 Folio190 p11

42 Church ?
James Draper  Head UN 46 Ag lab                        b Rushden
Edith      "         Wife  M   30                                  b Cothered
Ruth                  dau  11                                        b Rushden
Edward             son   8                                                "
Jonathan           son  6                                                 "
Edith                   dau 4                                                "
Noah                   son 10m                                           "

James Draper is clearly marked as Unmarried. There is a line through Edith but it looks like married and she is stated as wife.
                         Regards
                                          Geoff

Difficult to find James Draper's first wife if any. There are a few deaths listed on Free BMD between 1837 and 1850  for Royston which would include Rushden at this period of time. You may need to search some parish registers for a marriage as it would have been before 1837.

Also it might be worth trying to find the 1841 Census. I have no access to that.
                             Good luck

Hi,

The 1841 entry  for the Draper family reads as follows   ...

James Draper  35  Ag Lab
Edith Draper  20

Ruth Draper  1
Joseph Draper 45  Ag Lab
John Bery (?)   20  Ag Lab.
All born in county.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dee,

I have found another James Draper on the 1851 with a son Joseph and these appear to fit the criteria of your original posting.

HO107/1707  F.187.  P.5.  Southwell Greeen, Rushden
Living with Benjamin and Mary Cannon and family, farmers of 262 acres of land employing 14 labourers
James Draper  Servant  Widower  40  Ag Lab  Rushden
Joseph Draper Servant  U  21  Ag Lab  Rushden.

Perhaps  this will affect your line of enquiry and I will wait for your reply.

Regards   ...   Peter

yes this has effected my line of inquiry.
I don't think that this is our James and Joseph.
My reason for this is Joseph was married in February 1851 at Royston and Buntingford. To Sarah swain.
On there marriage one of the witness is Mary Draper which would fit with the other Jame's and Joseph 45 that you found in 1841.
I have found Joseph and Sarah in the middlesex census. That is were allot of my family lived Edmonton and Enfield and Tottenham.

who was Joseph in 1841?

what do you think ?
