Hello Apache,

You may well be able to throw some light on a vague reference I received
regarding a Stephen SAMSON and Amelia Borer (or maybe Pamela.)

It would be the 1841 that may help . They may or may not have been married by then.
Anything at all on the two names  or families would be a help. (Within reason, I do not ask for blanket searches)

I know that around 1879 Harp Farm Staplehurst was mentioned in a will.
and they would have been born around 1800-1810.
Thanks
regards
Grandad james.

Hello Grandad James,

Stephen SAMSON is found on the 1841 census living at Pagehurst Farm. He is age 40, a farmer and born in the county (which is the only information on the 1841 census as far as birth place is concerned).
Pagehurst Farm is of historic significance in Staplehurst. Great Pagehurst was a manor and the house dates from 1500.
Also living in the household were
Pamela Samson age 35, Sarah 14, Elizabeth 11, Harriet 9, Stephen 5, Richard 3, John 1 month.
There is also a Benjamin Samson age 40, a highway surveryor but unfortunately it does not tell us his relationship.
There were 3 servants N. Reeves 25, male servant, James Tomsett 15 male servant, and Rhoda Sarjant 15 Female Servant.

Stephen did not marry in Staplehurst. I have only done the baptisms up to 1790 (will get there eventually) so I cannot say whether he was born in Staplehurst but the name is not of long standing in Staplehurst.
I do note that in 1891, there is a William Samson in in Couchman Green. He appears to be Congregational as there is several mentions of him in the Staplehurst Congregational book.

I hope this is of some help. If I find any more, I will let you know.

Regards

Hello,
I was going to start with geronimo.. ;D

That information strengthens my suspicion  that Pamela and Amelia were the same person.

The children are named in the will where she is referred to as Amelia.  She mentions a Richard BORER as her brother and as you have shown she was Pamela in 1841 and
Pamela Borer was bapt in Staplehurst in 1804.

Thanks so much as pre 1837 can be hard work.

Take care
Gj.

I Think Pamela and Amelia are the same person.  She was the daughter of Thomas Borer and Sarah nee Mitchell. Think the Samsons also farmed Dourns farm.

Just to let you know that both the 1841 and 1891 census for
Staplehurst, Kent are now available on the following web site.
It also contains parish register Baptisms, burials and marriages for the years 1695 to 1812.
