James Wrench born 1820/Elizabeth Humphreys born 1816 - both Kingsley
« on: Sunday 29 January 06 14:34 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am searching for details of James Wrench born in 1820 in Kingsley, Cheshire and his wife and family.

I know that James married Elizabeth Humphreys who was born in 1816 also in Kingsley. I also know of three children, a daughter who married a Walker, as well as 2 sons:

Daniel Wrench born in 1857 in Kingsley
John Wrench born in 1859 in Kingsley

I know of no further details of the daughter, from whom I believe I am descended, or of the 2 sons either. Any details of the Kingsley Wrench and Humphreys families, including their ancestors and descendants and other brothers and sisters would be gratefully received.

Regards,

Ian

Hi Ian,
On the 1861 census for James Wrench and family there is a grandson William H.Shallcross age 6 - have you discovered who he belongs to? also on the 1881 census a grand-daughter Mary Walker age 14.

A big thanks to Big-Al and Odessa!!

Big-Al - you have managed to push back my tree a whole generation, so thank you!  Where can I see the 1841 census, is it on-line yet?

Odessa - Now there's another family mystery - who is this William Shallcross?  Maybe there's another female who married a Shallcross, or perhaps he was illegitimate or adopted... (did they adopt in those days?)  Concerning Mary Walker she is my great-gran, but there was always the question - if James and Elizabeth Wrench were Mary's grandparents, who were her parents?

Thanks to you both once more, but if anyone else recognises these new names -

JAMES WRENCH born 1796 married to MARY born 1801 with the children Big-Al lists in his post -

then I'd be grateful to hear from them.

Regards,

Ian

ref the above message: I have done a lot of research on the Humphreys surname in and around Norley.  I think you'll find that who you think is Elizabeth Humphreys is in fact Elizabeth Marrow by birth.  She married William Humphreys of Crowton in 1833.  He died in 1839 and she re-married James Wrench, himself a widower at the time.  I don't know the name of his 1st wife, but I think she died during the 1840's.  I believe Elizabeth died in Kingsley in 1900 and was buried at St John's, Norley.

Hi Agric-Lad5,

Sorry I've only just spotted this - I thought Rootschat sent emails when someone replied as I haven't received any for aged and thought I'd just take a look!

It does sound like you've researched this thoroughly as you've certainly got a lot of detail on Elizabeth and James.  I'm wondering whether you'd be willing to share any further details on the Marrow family - or for that matter on the Humphreys as I wonder whether Elizabeth and her first husband William had any offspring - half-siblings to Daniel and John Wrench.

Thanks very much.

Ian

PS for instance I 'know' of the following children who I assumed were all Wrenches -
-  female who married a Shallcross (their son was William Shallcross born in 1855),
- my ancestor Mary (Wrench?) born in 1838-9 although given this birthdate perhaps she was born a Humphreys...
- then the 2 brothers Daniel and John Wrench born in 1857 and 1859-60 respectively.  Perhaps these are the only 2 born as Wrench?

Can you shed any further light on these?  Were there any other children to either marriage?  Thanks.
