Joynes of Gloucestershire
« on: Saturday 28 January 06 23:52 GMT (UK) »
Greetings,
I wonder if anyone can help with my search.

I have recently started to trace back my family history and the earliest I have found is William Joynes in the 1851 census. He was born abt 1816 in Temple Guiting and married Mary who was born abt 1805 in Dumbleton.

Together they had four children: Elizabeth (abt 1839), Fanny (abt 1841), Hester (abt 1844) and George (abt 1848). I am decended from George.

I would appreciate if anyone could tell me who William (or Mary's) parents were, and what they were up to in 1871 (I cannot find any census information for them during this time). Any other information would also be gratefully recieved.

I have followed this line to the present day,  and have some mysteries I'd love to solve. If anyone is a Joynes and would like me to share the information I have gained, I would be happy to do so.
Warm regards
matt

Hi Matt,

Can't help with William's or Mary's parents but I think this should be them in 1871:
RG10/2656 52 5
Temple Guiting, Gloucestershire

William Joines, head, 55, Master carpenter, b. Kineton Temple Guiting
Mary, wife, 65, b. Dumbleton

and next door:
George Joines, head, 23, Carpenter, b. Castelet? Guiting Power
Sarah, wife, 20, b. Temple Guiting
William, son, 1, b. Kineton Temple Guiting

Hi Tanja,

Ah! I hadn't thought about other spellings. Those are definately them, and a new twist too, I had not previously know about George and Sarah's son William, I am wondering if he died early on?

Thank you so much for repsonding, and so quickly too!

Warm regards
matt

Couldn't trace him at first but now think he may be the Arthur W age 11 in the 1881 census - What do you think?

That makes sense, certainly fits in with the ages etc. How do you find the information so quickly? I've been using Ancestry.co.uk, and to be honest I am still trying to find the 1871 records that you found...

Many thanks again
matt

Oh... Spellings again - must be a different transcriber. Entering the record numbers in that you found, I discover William James.

already searched the IGI at www.familysearch.org?

I can see this:
Guiting Power, Gloucestershire
Batch number C025271

28 Feb 1847 George Joynes
Parents William Joynes and Mary

7 April 1844 Hester Joynes
Parents William Joynes and Mary

Temple Guiting, Gloucestershire
Batch number C036071

18 April 1841 Fanny Joynes
Parents William Joynes and Elizabeth (mistake?)

26 August 1838
Elizabeth Joynes
Parents William Joynes and Mary

There's also in the same batch:
Christening William Joynes
7 August 1814
Parents Stephen Joynes and Joyce

+ a few other children born to this couple

I can also see
Christening Arthur William Joynes 11 July 1869
to George Joynes and Sarah Ann.
