Reality check
« on: Saturday 28 January 06 14:05 GMT (UK) »
I'm not a computer buff but wanted my computer upgrading.  My father in law is supposedly a computer buff, so off he went with my precious PC.  I was adamant and kept going on to him not to lose all my family history files, he didn't lose my research but lost over 200 photos of my beautiful little daughter.

My research could be found again but I can never go back in time and re-take the photos.  I'm gutted :'(

He's taken my PC to a computer fair to see if anything can b retrieved-fingers crossed.

So, a bit of advice, allways back up and put everything of importance on a disk.

Wheeldon the big fat fool :-\ :'( >:(

Wheeldon

I'd be gutted as well  :'( :'( :'(

An Oz company called GetData has an excellent product called Recover My Photos which costs $A29.95 and can be downloaded from their web site .........they also sell their products overseas so you may be able to buy it in the UK.

If nothing has been retrieved go to the company's web site www.getdata.com and check the the program out Wheeldon. Worth a try.

They have all been retrieved - I'm so happy and relieved ;D ;D

Everything from now on is going to be put on a disc and I'll never let my father in law even breath on my PC!

Greetings,
May I suggest one way of keeping important files? I have an external hard drive that I have my photo's and genealogy programs on.
The external is a Maxtor, and is set to do an automatic backup of the main computer once a week. (can be set do so more often if one likes)
If for any reason I want security, such as when I am away from home for any extended periods, I just unplug the hard drive and store it away in a fire resistant safe. It also can be moved from one computer to another.
                 Just a thought, regards Ian.
