Catholic Mortuary 2 & 3, Section 5, Row 38, Grave 1534

INSCRIPTION READS:  Son of R & J Stallworthy, Collarenabri and Grandson of E Kirkpatrick.  Accidentally killed

This looks like a match to death entry on NSW Bdm's for Richard E STALLWORTHY, parents Richard E and Janet I (1921)

Sorry, Cazay, I've only just caught up with this.

There are far too many Richard E Stallworthys floating around ... well, that's three of them in Australia now.  It's just a matter of working out which one belongs to whom! It will all get easier if/when the NSW birth records go beyond 1905.

I think I've got it sussed, and yes, the one who died so young  does seem to be mine.

Also found an entry for Janet Imelda Stallworthy aged 88 30 January 1977 at Collarenebri Hospital on Ryerson Index(various newspaper funeral and death notices)

A couple of the other entries may belong to your family as well.

If you Google Ryerson Index you can search the names yourself

Hi Koromo

I checked the passenger List of the 'Richard'.  It a left Paraiba (i think thats the name) and arrived Melb 7th July 1853. The master was William White.
It included passengers from 'Sir Fowell Buxton' (wrecked).

I don't know if the Stalworthy's were originally on the 'Sir Fowell Buxton'.  There is no mention of children but the written listing is as follows:

E Stalworthy 39 Male Married
M Stalworthy 41 Female Married
E Stalworthy 26 Male married
C Stalworthy 38 married (i forgot to write whether male or female) sorry
R Stalworthy 34 Single male
W Stalworthy 29 Single male
C Stalworthy 27 Single male

They were all british subjects.

Sir Fowell Buxton struck Tapioca Shoals off the coast of Brazil, north of Cape San Roque, 16 December 1852.

Cazay, thanks for directing me to the Ryerson index - as well as Janet, I found one other definite member of the family. 

Genni, thank you so much for going to the trouble of looking up the passengers. I am presuming now that the children might not have been on the list, so I just need to match up the adults - and now I know which are married or not.  It must have been a really crowded voyage with extra passengers from the wrecked ship, but very lucky!

Dear Koromo,
I just came across your enquiry on the Edward Hutton Stallworthy and families emigration to Australia.

I posted the info on the First Families years ago.  I actually have a copy of the passenger list for the "Richard" as well as some information on their departure from UK on the "Sir Fowell Buxton" which was apparently shipwrecked.  They joined "Richard" at Val Paraiso in Chile.

I have a lot of info, far from complete on the family in Australia.

I have some information on their Buckinghamshire family however I am looking for more.

Last week I had a visitor, a cousin, Ray Stallworthy who has been, along with me, researching the Stallworthy family.

We have both been very slack, however we jointly resolved to “get stuck into it” again.

My first resolution was to try to contact Jean Hinder (Stallworthy) from Aylesbury, which I have done and then to contact you to see what you have been up to.  Hopefully your email address hasn’t changed.

I know I promised to send you some information on the Australian branches of the family.

I’ll start with a couple of photos of a grave at Young, NSW.  I know I need to update my Stallworthy file, and as soon as I do I will send you a copy.

The first? Stallworthys in Australia departed England in Oct 1952.

Edward Hutton Stallworthy was born, 1816 in Wheatley, Oxfordshire, England, married Mary Ann Viccars at Padbury in 1840.  His parents were Ezra Stallworthy and Betsy Perkins.

They sailed on the ship “Sir Fowell Buxton” which as you know was wrecked, and arrived in Port Phillip (Melbourne) on the ship “Richard”.

I really just wanted to get in touch again.
