Hi Dmedal
As Pauline suggests, registration of births, marriages & deaths first got organised in 1837. Prior to that you are looking for Parish Records (generally held in local record offices these days) or such as Pallot's Marraige Index or Boyd's Marriage Index.
Probably the best thing you can do is to post a request on the board for the county your ancestors were in at the time, so if you know that John MEDAL married in Wiltshire in 1820, try posting a request on the Wiltshire board.
Family History Societies often publish transcriptions on CD or fiche, which those with local knowledge will be able to inform you about. Or if you are really lucky, there might be someone going to the local Record Office, who can look up the record you need.
If you are unsure of which county, post a request in the most likely county. WAIT a while, to see whether there is any response (the person you need might be on holiday!). Then if no joy, try another county or post on the Common Room Board.
If you have a specific query give as much detail as you possibly can, including the last census you found them on - with reference if possible.
Good luck & ask again if you need further help
kind regards, Arranroots
