Hi Jim

I think Newcastle Library may be a good place to start:

John James Fenwick (1846-1905) founded the store in 1882.  He came from Yorkshire.  Searches of the internet will pull out a number of articles about him.  He is buried in Jesmond Old Cemetery.

Although I am not related in any way, I am interested in Richard Herbert (or Hubert) Fenwick who was partof this family and died in 1946.  I have reason to believe he was very much connected to the London branch and had a flat in that area during the WW2.  My interest is due to finding a newspaper cutting of his obituary in a relatives papers and wondering why it had been kept for 60 years.

About 25 years ago there were old photos of the Fenwick family in the personnel corridor in the Northumberland St tore. I think the apprentices learned about the family as part of their training.

Hello.

I worked at The Fenwick Department Store for over 32 years and have a book telling you about their history with photo's of the fashions and other interesting things. They are still a family run business. Mr John Fenwick is now in his 90's and is still living in Jesmond with is wife. A number of the children of the Fenwick family are now working in all their different stores as company directors.  The book I have is in hardback
and was compiled by members of the family and history from their archives. If your interested you can contact me on e;mail. (*)

I've been researching my great great uncle's Gateshead shop, Snowball's Store.
See:http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,223990.0.html
It's founder, William Snowball, remained at the head of the Snowball’s Store concern during the whole  period of its extraordinary development and growth until 1882, when he retired from the helm of affairs, leaving it to the control of his son, George Laverick Snowball and William Fenwick McAllum, his son-in-law (who later settled in N.Z.). Was there any connection here with the Fenwick family?
Names: Snowball
Areas: Northumberland.

Hi there again,I have not started checking out the Fenwick side of my McAllum family.I am almost positive that my great great grandmother,Phoebe Jane McAllums (maiden name Fenwick)mother Ann Fenwick (maiden name Bainbridge)born 1799 was the sister of Emerson Bainbridge who started the famous store.I see from a  1901 census report on an older posting of mine several Fenwick family members as well as my 2nd gt gt grandmother at Eshott Hall.As I said I have not really started on that line, but it could be very possible I connection to three stores would be something.I wonder if they were all Methodists as my 4th gt grandfather Rev Duncan McAllum and his son Dr,Daniel McAllum became Methodist Ministers and I believe their parishes were in Wallsend and Churchway.Finding the parents names of the parents of William Fenwick who married Margret Snowball may reveal something. Is there a Fenwick website I wonder, looks like Id better get busy.Cheers Gereon.
