st austin's court shrewsbury
« on: Friday 27 January 06 16:43 GMT (UK) »
I have found that an ancestor died (of scrofula, age 10 in 1859) at St Austin's Court, Shrewsbury and wondered if anyone can tell me if this was a hospital of some sort.  I have no record of the family ever living at this address.

Thanks, Kathryn

I do not know if it was a hospital or an address but St Austin Friars was/is the area around the Priory Grammar  School(now the sixth form college) hope this helps

....and  St Austin's Street is where The China Rose Chinese Restaurant is!!!!  Lovely place - have you ever been there s.g.d?!!!

Kathryn

I suggest that you telephone the Shropshire Archives in Shrewsbury

Telephone: 01743 255350
Telephones are answered personally where possible during normal working hours - an answer phone service is available at other times.

or send them an email

Email: archives@shropshire-cc.gov.uk
Please provide a postal address as well as your email address. This will enable us to contact you in the event that your email address is incorrect or fails to deliver.

We aim to answer or acknowledge all enquiries within 10 working days.

They will look up the street name for you, for no charge, and will even send you a copy of the map for about £3.50 (I think!!!, please check as I think it might have gone up now).

Hope this helps

Jan
