Hi Sadsack

I can find a Charles Howard and a Sarah on the 1871 census.. Would this be them. ??

Living at South Church which is part of St Andrew's Auckland.

Charles Howard 27, Occ Coalminer born Cavenham Suffolk.
Sarah Howard 27, born St Andrew's Auckland, Durham
William Howard 4  born St Andrew's Auckland, Durham
Elizabeth Howard 9 months born St Andrew's Auckland, Durham

There's also this marriage

Charles Howard and Sarah Waggot married in 1865

married at Bishop Auckland Register Office I think..

If you know his Father's name you could use the father's name for a checking reference to see if it's the right man.. Certificate would have to be applied for.. :(

Nothing else jumping out at me at the min..

The Vicars Wife

UPDATE..

there's also this marriage

Charles Howard = Elizabeth Dove/Cole in 1885
Which seems to be Chester le Street Register Office

and a Charles Howard and Margaret Mewse married in 1884
which seems to have taken place at St James Church at Castle Eden

There's also this Death from Freebmd

Deaths Jun 1884
Howard  Sarah  41  Auckland  10a 101

Which ties in with the age of Sarah on the 1871 Census..

The Charles Howard = Margaret Mewse could be a second marriage..

it would be worth getting or checking the Castle Eden marriage from Durham Records Office for a fee of £2 they would send you a photocopy of the entry from the parish register's..  this would state if he were a widow when he married Margaret

The entry number for the marriage in the register would be 161

Hope this helps

Yours

Thank you for the help, I am starting to think that Margaret and Sarah are the same person.  You are right I will have to apply for the certificate..........

Again thank you

The plot thickens,  I didn't see the updated piece, but I have now.  Which explains a lot because their family (my partners ancestors and Charles' descendants) all hail from Chester le Street.  I will call into the Records Office and have a look for myself.

Again thank you for your help, I am very grateful.....

Regards

Would you kindly look up a marriage between John Wilkinson and Mary Atkinson in the late 1820s please? Their first child was Isabelle Wilkinson born 1828 in Hamsterley (according to census) and baptised in Greatham. Any details on Mary and John would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Amanda

Hi Amanda

Nothing in my data for these two

but been having a search about..

There's a Marriage at Gateshead Wilkinson and Atkinson that both match up for years.. but I have managed to eliminate these two as they both marry in 1825  but not to each other... lol

and the only other one at the min between 1820 and 1828 that I can find a match for is

John Wilkinson 1824sh,      Stranton
Mary Atkinson 1824sh..

Stranton is just on the outskirts of Hartlepool and Greatham isnt that far away from there either..

If you contact Durham Records Office.. for a fee of £2 for photocopy of the said marriage...  or phone them up and they should be able to tell you if this is a marriage between John Wilkinson and Mary Atkinson..

With two such popular names... I wish you all the luck in the world..

Thank you so much for taking the time to check my Atkinson and Wilkinson marriage. I was already aware of the Stranton entry and suspected this would be mine but had a niggle that there could be a marriage in Hamsterley; at least this has put my mind to rest and I can now follow up the Stranton leads!
Thanks once again Amanda

Thank you once again.
Your efforts have prompted me to look up the Stranton marriage at Family History On Line and have a date for the marriage as 24th May 1824.
Stranton is the next village on from Greatham where my Wilkinsons lived through the 1841 and 51 censuses when they were plate layers building the railway from Seaton Carew to Billingham. There is an Atkinson family living in Greatham at this time who may be related to Mary.
Mary listed Morely (Aukland St Helen 1805) and Hamsterley as her place of birth in the census, I have assumed her family were based there rather than Greatham. Her husband John Wilkinson is listed as being born in Middridge (Auckland St Andrew) 1792. I suppose my next stage is to search the baptism records of these parishes, I'll have a look through the IGIs first.
This should keep me busy for a while!
Thanks !!!
