Ah, could Mary Ann be Mary Jane?? I havent been able to find any Cunnah's living in Durham in the 1881 with the same name. It does look like a possible, will have to get the marriage cert for Mary and Walter first, but the bank account cant cope with any more at present!!

Hi Emma

Ive just been having a search for them on Ancestry in 1881 and I cannot locate this family either.. so they could be badly mistranscribed..

All these Cunnah's married in Sunderland area all on Sunderland Registrars site

CUNNAH Jane 1872
HAIG William 1872

CUNNAH Elizabeth 1872
THOMAS William 1872

CHARLTON John C 1876
CUNNAH Christina 1876

CUNNAH Ann 1880
SANDERSON William H 1880

CUNNAH Joseph 1900
ROBERTS Hannah 1900

and these two are from the Durham Registrars site

CUNNAH Mary J 1892 Durham Eastern
REYNOLDS Walter 1892 Durham Eastern
REYNOLS Walter 1892 Durham Eastern
E13 - 146 - Durham Eastern (1892)

CUNNAH Isabella 1900 Durham Western
ALLISON Thomas 1900 Durham Western

Looks like your Mary J Cunnah and Reynolds were married at Easington Register office..

I thought that it must be a bad transcription too.

On the 1901 census my MARY JANE says she was born Monkwearmouth, and there is also a MARY KING living in the household down as mother -in- law to head of household which would make her Mary Jane's mother. Her place of birth is down as Chester-le-Street.

Now im thinking did Mary's mother marry a KING when she was a widow or did Mary Jane marry a CUNNAH and then marry walter after her husband died!!

All very thought povoking!

Walter's mother was called Millicent and she was from Panfield in Essex so this couldnt be his mother. His mother died in 1903, 5 years before his father died in 1908, both died in Essex so this MARY couldnt be Walter's mother!

Mary King's age and place of birth both fit in with the census you have, as does Mary Jane's, apart from the Ann/Jane difference!

I cant find a Mary Cunnah nor a Mary King on the 1881 of the right age either!
