1891 census for Bayliss of Queenhill Worcs
« on: Wednesday 25 January 06 19:38 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please look up the 1891 Census for Queenhill, Upton on Severn district of Worcestershire

I am looking for Alfred Henry (or Harry) Bayliss born approx 1866 at Queenhill Worcs.

And if you really could spare the time a little look up on the 1871 census would be wonderful.

Thanks very much

Hi,
I'm interested in the Ellen Bayliss in your family.  I believe she married Frank Powell in 1898 and went on to have several children by him - George, Rose, Winifred, Thomas, Ellen, William (Billey) and Frances (Francey).  I am particularly interested in Rose who I believe died in childbirth in 1926.
I've sent another email to you through Tribal Pages too.
Do we have the same Ellen here? :)

Just seen your message re. Ellen Bayliss, she was my Grandmother and Frank Powell my Grandfather. Rose is the daughter of Winifred, Franks first wife, they had 6 children including George and Rose. Winifred died and Frank remarried Ellen Bayliss in 1898 and they had another 6 children, one of whom was my mother. Are you related to the Bayliss family?

Hi,
Thanks for replying.  My relationship with the Bayliss family is right on the outskirts of my tree - but my interest in them is through Rose.  I have a Rose Selina Powell who married Hastings Fitzroy Page 1st December 1921 in Paddington.  Her father's name was given as Frank and his profession a Post Master.  She later died in childbirth in 1926, giving birth to a boy child unnamed on the birth certificate but later called Roy or Richard.  This child would be my 3rd cousin 1x removed.  I have a small family bible that had been given to Hastings Fitzroy Page by his father with a note inside detailing more ancestors and their relationships that really belongs to Roy/Richard or his descendants.  Is this the same Rose and if so do you know anything else about her, her brief marriage or this child?
I've tried to attached a copy of the marriage cert I have but for some reason it won't let me  :(
Regards,
Linda

Thanks for your reply. Sorry I don't know about Rose because my family is from the marriage of Frank and Ellen, but I can tell you the following, Frank Powell was a one armed man, I'm told he lost his arm in a threshing machine when working as a farm servant he then became a rural postman at Corse Lawn post office, Eldersfield, Worcestershire. He married Winifred Tracey on 18/8/1883 at The Parish Church, Bishops Cleeve, Gloucestershire. According to the 1891 census she was from Middlesex. They lived at Longdon, Worcestershire, Frank's birthplace, and had 6 children, Mary Elizabeth, Clara Elizabeth, Annie Maria, George Edward he was a Coldstream Guard and died in action on 21/10/1914 at France/Flanders aged 28. Rose Selina Powell born 9/9/1894 and Joseph Henry born 2/10/1896 he died 5/11/1897 aged 13 months. Winifred died 10/6/1897 of Phthisis Pulmonalis exhaustion (Pulmonary TB) at Longdon. Frank remarried Ellen Bayliss on 27/8/1898 and went on to have another 5/6 children. Frank Powell died 1/1/1908, whilst delivering post he fell backwards into a ditch on Eldersfield Marsh and his feet became embedded in the mud, he couldn't get out and died of exhaustion  due to exposure. There was a report in the Tewkesbury Register on 4/1/1908 describing how he was found 4 hours after he was due back at the post office, by a man returning from work. Sorry I can't tell you anymore about Rose, do you know if she had a daughter Joan? If you want to know more about Frank's parents let me know. Good luck. Sorry if you've already had this msg. but this is new to me!!
