Sturgess
« on: Tuesday 24 January 06 18:17 GMT (UK) »
Is there anyone out there that just might know the maiden name of Patience who married Thomas Sturgess between 1851-55. Thomas was from Derbyshire but Patience was born in Elleston, Staffs, their first child was Hannah born C1854 Elleston. I can't find the marriage anywhere.
Thanks

Hi Jill,

I have Patience  Collis on my tree.  She's not a direct  line  but there  all the  same and  married  to Thomas Sturgess. She was born abt  1831   in Ellastone but I have yet to find a chr for her. She is the Daughter  of Joseph Collis and Jane Collis. (Yep both with same  surname)  they were married in  Ellastone 27 Mar 1826.
Joseph was the son of William Collis and Jane Wint.
I can  fill  you in with siblings and such if you are interested. Send me  a PM  if you want  to correspond  more on this family.

All the best Angela

Hi Angela,
Thanks for getting in touch, this is really interesting. I just have one concern, on the 1851 census 2146/133 or 134 (its a B page) I have Patience living with her parents Joseph 55 and wife Hannah 39 with sisters emma 18 and Adah 10, and they are on 1861 2520/95. Does this mean Jane died and Joseph remarried to Hannah.
sorry not sure what pm is but would like to stay in touch.

Thats my understanding of  the family so far. All  the chr for the other children even up  to Adah has parents named as Joseph  and Jane. Now ither Hannah went by two names or she is a 2nd marriage. I haven't looked  too hard for the marriage as I have been too busy trying  to sort out the Collis line  at  the moment but  might try again this eve.

A  pm is a private message. I have sent you one instead with  my email address if you wish to get in contact.

Look forward  to hearing from you again.

All the best Angela.

Hi.
I hope you're still posting on here.
I was searching the net for Collis' in Ellastone and found this thread.
I've got William Collis and Jane Wint in my ancestry. I also have the William's ancestors back to Nicholas Collis, married to Elizabeth Scattergood (love that name) who was born in 1656.
If any of you has more info, or would like more of mine, please get in touch  :)
