I'm trying to trace what happened to my G grandmother and I have been given information that in 1944 ish she was accomodated at the "Queens Nurses" on the Quay Walls. Was that a nursing home and are there records?
Also her death certificate, October 1946 says she died at 74 Castlegate. Was this the workhouse and if so are there records around for this date? Finally, her home address was given on the death certificate as 1 Brewery Bank, Tweedmouth. Who owned that house at that time?
I'd be very grateful for any answers. I'm off on holiday tomorrow so it might be a little while before I get round to thanking any informants!
Just incidentally - when did workhouses shut or become other things?
