More Batts
« on: Saturday 21 January 06 03:31 GMT (UK) »
Further to the Batts from Houghton, I am also looking for any info on any Batts from Barton Stacey. I havefound one George Batt was transported to Tasmania in 1838 for stealing sheep. He got a life sentence, he left a wife and family of 8 children. I believe after he served 14 years he got a ticket of leave and was a free man, and married  and had another family in Tasmania. If anyone has any info on the English family I would like to hear from them

Twiggy - I currently live in the Village and have an interest in genealogy.    What info do you have on the Batts left behind - I can see four  Batt  families in the 1851 census one without a male as head wife is Ann - is that your family?   If so I'll have a look at what I can find.  The second family looks to be of the same generation as Ann so may be a brother Thomas with wife Ann.  the other two are headed by William Batt's.
