Hi Elizabeth,
This is great news, my granfather, who was called Cyril Thomas Bowbrick Wilson, never knew where the bowbrick came from in his lifetime, I found out the bowbrick conection was his grandmother's maiden name and now I can see why he had Thomas Bowbrick as Thomas was his grandmothers father. I am interested in finding out anything on the Bowbrick line and the Flishers.
Any orginal documents would also be good to see. Maybe at some point in the future we could meet up, I live in Kent. In the meantime, just to fill you in a little more on Sarah Edwards Bowbrick, she married Thomas Joseph Wilson (my gg.grandfather)who was at the time a corporal in the 99th Regiment of Foot, in 1879 Sarah accompanied her huspand to South Africa where his regiment was involved in the Zulu War, my g.grandfather was born while they were out there..!!

Hi Andy,That would be fine i live in Portsmouth so it is not too far . It would probable be easier if you would like copies of  anything i have.
Here is a bit more anyway, the next in my line is Henry John b 1838-1902, he was my great grandfather , as you already know amongst many ships he served on were the Warrior and the Victory, my oldest brother has the original ships papers, the majority of his life was spent at sea but still managed to have 7 children so here goes. The oldest who was my grandfather was Henry John b 1865-c1928, Michael b 1868, Mary Ann 1872, Sarah b 1874, Georgina b 1878, Esther b 1880, Stephen b 1885, all born in Portsmouth. Their mother was Mary Ann Sullivan b 1840-1906 in Scilly Ireland, my cousin has visited this place and seems to think she may have come over during the potato famine, as a baby about 1843. My grand father married Alice Phillips nee Atkins in Portsmouth on the 3/1/1894, they had 4 children, Henry b 1895/1896, John(jack) b 1897-1985, Alice b c 1900- c1906, then my father George Michael b 1903-1991.My grandfather Henry 1865 was also in the navy but was also in the army, we also have some of his papers, stillthat is another story. I have only been doing my family tree for 18 months  and the last 6 months i haven't done much at all , I have had a lot of help from other people on genes re-united especially with the Flisher family , i will do that tomorrow, i hope this has been reasonable clear Andy ,i'll send more soon. Best regards Elizabeth.

Portsmouth is not far at all, funny enough my daughter has applied to go to portsmouth university as her first choice which she hopes to start this September.
Like you I go in fits and starts on the family history, it's great when you add little snippets. I have always loved the history of Portsmouth, Nelson, HMS Victory and it was amazing when I discovered the link with HMS Warrior and my GG. Uncle Henry John Bowbrick and now to find that he actually served time on the Victory is even better.
Thank you for this additional info, I guess this makes us cousins third time removed or something like that
The next thing would be to see how far back we can get on the Bowbrick line, I think the info you have on the Flishers may be the same as mine, I found a link a while back.
I would be interested in seeing the documents you have, I've only just registered on this rootschat so I don't know how you send or receive images yet. I don't know if you put e-mail addresses out on the public domain, maybe you know what is the best idea. Regards
Andy

Hi Andy,
To be honest i have no idea about sending images and such like,i have to admit most of the time i don't really know what i am doing, although i have used a computer for a lot of years it was mainly a set programme. I just hit a button and hope for the best really, I have to relie on my children or grandchildren sometimes.I have done one computer course but rather inconveniently my local library has decided to close for a 6 month refit. What a coincidence that your daugter is coming to Pompey, small world is'nt it.Do you have all of Jane Flisher's siblings Andy, if not i will send that to you next. Also Henry 1838,went into the navy 19/2/1856/ was on at least 26 ships and was pensioned off 16/3/1884,. I do have a rough list of all the ships but if you do manage to get this way in the near future i will get the papers from my brother for you to look at . Regards Elizabeth

That would be good, I will let you know a date, I know we still have a family ticket for the historical dockyards which we and another family have to use up soon. We could meet up for a coffee, it would be interesting to see any old photographs and documents.
I'll get my wife to organise a day with our friends, hopefully it will be convenient for you.
Thanks for the info so far.
Regards
Andy

I don't know if you put e-mail addresses out on the public domain,....
Andy

If you send a personal message giving your e-mail address it keeps it confidential, then you can send images directly by e-mail. I have done this with other Rootschatters with no problems. I wouldn't recommend putting personal details on an open forum.

I still haven't proved a link between my Bowbricks an the Jane Flisher marriage!

All the best to you, Andy and Elizabeth

Thanks philip,
Do you mean clicking on the persons profile and sending a message through that route?
I am hoping to meet up with Elizabeth to swap documents, I think that she and I are third cousins or something like that.
It's amazing what you can find out.
You'll have to send me your details you have on your Bowbrick ancesters to see if I have anything in my notes that match up, two heads are better than one as they say.
Regards
Andy

Hallo, And

Yes, that's the method I use.

If you go down this page to the message I posted in October it shows all I have on my Bowbricks. I haven't done any recent digging as I have been looking at another branch.

All the best
Philip
