Hiya Anne
There is only one burial with that name that I can see in Barnsley Cemetery and its a John age 6 weeks. She could be buried in either Monk Bretton or Cudworth Churchyards.

Most churchyards will be closed to new burials after the opening of the municipal cemeteries, plots with spaces and plots that have already been allocated would have been used but there would have been no new spaces opened.

I cant see Ruth in either Cudworth or Monk Bretton Cemeteries so it might be worth checking the church burials. It also might be worth checking the local newspapers for an obituary even in 1959 85 was a good age and her death may have been reported.

Hello:

Thank you everyone for the suggestions.  I will certainly follow them up while I am in barnsley.  Gillian would the public library had newspapers from that time.   also would the library have burial records.

Thank you again everyone

cheers

Hi Anne

The archives and local studies department will have the newspapers and the parish records on microfiche.  Another posibility is she may have been cremated, not in Barnsley as they didn't do them until the 1960's but people did go to Pontefract and Sheffield as they started earlier.

I can only see one burial in the 50's and its for a Thomas Richard Ingram.
Theres a burial in 1971 for a William Henry Ingram he died in Wath Wood Hospital and lived 18 Marston Crescent New Lodge. You will have to explain better what you mean with "and Cobb "
