I suppose the only way to find out is to send for the death certificate, some of my husbands family were born in Hanley Staffs and I was born in Dodworth and still here lol small world isn't it.

  Thanks. I have sent off for the death certificate as well as some births and marriages. I only learned about William when I got his son George's marriage certificate. I was hoping that perhaps someone might be able to tie a burial spot to his death. I'll post more once I hear from GRO.

 I just received the registration of William Shaw's death and he was killed in an explosion at Oaks Colliery on 13 Dec 1866 while attempting to rescue survivors. I don't know why his name was not listed among those killed.

Leeds Mercury December 14 1866 - The estimates as to the number of volunteers who were in the pit when the explosions took plae vary considerably and it is feared that not less than 28 of the men who courageously risked their lives as members of the exploring parties have shared the same fate as the unfortunate colliers. We have been furnished with a list of the names of the whole of those who volunteered, so far as that could be taken at the pit mouth as the men came forward, and in appending so we have to add with caution that it is impossible to ascertain whether any of them are amongst those buried in the pit.
There are 62 names listed including W. Shaw and an R. Shaw.

Can't see a William Shaw in that time scale
The only Caroline Winter burial was in 1912, buried 30 May 1912, 33 Wood Street, Section M plot 640.
