Carolanne,
The Coal Mining Resource Center (www.cmhrc.co.uk) lists a William Shaw, unknown age, killed in Barnsley in 1866. Perhaps he was killed in another incident. I don't have an address for the family. I only know his name from his son's marriage certificate - the son was living in Platts Common. Coincidentally, the marriage was witnessed by a George Kenworthy - perhaps one of yours. Thanks for the help.

Hiya Mboro
Glad to be off help and that link that Tomkin listed was interesting too. I'll have a check on my George Kenworthy's.

Further to looking for William Shaw. I think my William Shaw may be the one whose death at age 39 was registered in Barnsley in the March quarter of 1867 (GRO vol 9c, page 130). His wife was named Caroline (possibly Sykes) who subsequently  married Thomas Winter (marriage registered in Barnsley June quarter 1869 GRO vol 9c, page 196). William and Caroline had 3 sons: George born in Hanley, Staffordshire in 1853 (my great grandfather); William born ca. 1865 in Dodworth; and Allen born ca. 1867 in Dodworth.
