Silkstone, although now a small village compared to Barnsley,
was the main Parish. This of course is a mainly ecclesiastical
matter and dates back to probably Anglo-Saxon times. When
the Normans came, much of the land was given to various
Barons etc. as a reward. Although the Saxon lord at Silkstone
retained a lot of his land ,presumably, as long as he paid homage and service
to the Norman overlords. So the old records will refer to people being in the
Parish of Silkstone which included Barnsley,Dodworth,Cumberworth,Cawthorne,
Hoyland Swaine, Stainborough, West Bretton and many other places.
As a matter of interest, I saw recently that William the Conqueror kept 50%
of Britain for himself, 25% he gave to the church and 25% he gave to his cronies.
To get back to the original question, Winn st. would be in Barnsley and would
therefore come under the Parish of Silkstone.
