Hi Carolanne,

Yes they were living in Dodworth in 1871.
I have found Joseph buried in Dodworth  (1874) and his father Ezra (1852) but I have not found Mary's burial, last know address for her from the 1881 census was 7 Victoria Terrace, Tune St Barnsley.

Many Thanks
KR  :)

Hi Carolanne,
Just had a thought, I can't find her in the 1891 census,  but would you mind  having a look from 1891 - 1901 for me, when you have time.

Thanks again
Regards
KR

Hi Doodle

Is there any mention of my g.g.father James Haycroft, d. 1866 in the Oaks Colliery, body apparently subsequently recovered.

Thanks for the rapid response.

1. Could you let me have the details of the two HAYCROFTs - I'm guessing the James might be a.k.a. John James b. 1884, d. 1884, but can't guess who the woman might be.  Are there still gravestones, or are the plots now levelled?

2. Would you have any idea where recovered victims of the Oaks pit might be buried?  In C1861 James's address was Chapeltown, Wortley, but I don't know where he would have been in 1866.

Sorry I couldn't get back sooner everywhere i clicked was offline for some strange reason.
James Haycroft buried 18 april 1914 age 4 mths lived at 18 John Edward St plot i 104
Sarah Haycroft buried 6 July 1869 age 40 lived at Acklam Row, New St plot L 559.
I've know idea about the condition of the graves. Theres every possibility that he was buried in his local churchyard in Chapletown. Was he married and if so is his wife still in the area in 1871.
Regards Carolanne
I'd have a look at the census but going out in 10mins

Carolanne

Thanks for that.

I  think the Sarah bur. 6 Jul 1869 was almost certainly James's wife!  She doesn't appear to be in the 1871 Census, but 2 children who were in the 1861 Census, plus 3 others born between 1862 and 1867 (the last a girl born some months after James's death), are there, scattered around in various places.

Sorry to impose - can I come back to you with some other names in due course?

Chris

No problem, anytime.
I'm not sure if this is correct but I've just remembered that there is a big plot in Barnsley Cemetery where they are a lot of burials to do with a mining disaster but which one I can't remember. A friend of mine told me that there was once a memorial stone made out of coal  which is or was in Barnsley town hall.
The best place to ask I would think is the main office for the burials in Barnsley Cemetery which is at the crem at Ardsley.
