Hi Paul,

Quote
I haven't been able to trace birth certificate or baptismal records for him but this date has been verified.

Um, you've lost me - how was it verified if you've not traced a baptism record?

Quote
describes Fysher Phillips Negus as my natural child by the said Elizabeth Phillips

This sounds as if Fysher was illegitimate - and the baptism record of a Fysher Phillips with a mother Elizabeth sounds right, and exceptionally the father was named, but apparently not given his correct surname (but do check the original record).  I've not found a marriage for Fysher Negus and Elizabeth Phillips in Hampshire.

Fysher Phillips Negus date of birth is quoted on his naval records

I cannot access/trace him on any baptismal records nor can i find him on 1841 or 1851 census. His wife Mary was staying with her mother is Southsea in 1851 census. I assume that at the time of both census he was away at sea.

I am sure that his parents never married as the will of Fysher Colman Phillips was made in December 1834 which he quotes Fysher Phiilips Negus as his natural child by Elizabeth Phillips. He died the following year.

If anyone can let me see any records or has further i formation i would be thakful

Ah I see.  Let's hope he told the truth when he joined the Navy - my OH's gt grandfather added 5 years to his age when he joined!

As an illegitimate child, he would probably have been baptised with his mother's surname and the first name of Fysher is very unusual, so I think that baptism is him.  The original records are held by Portsmouth Record Office, but film/fiche copies can be viewed at LDS Family History centres for a fee.

Since you have his naval record, you could check out this site:

http://www.pbenyon.plus.com/Naval.html

to see if the movements of any of the ships on which he served are detailed there.
